Monit’s MECS is an adult diaper care system consisting of a wearable sensor attached to the outside of a diaper, a communication hub, and a mobile app.
MECS is a service designed for Korea’s elderly population, which has surpassed 10 million people. Using a pattern-learning algorithm powered by AI sensing technology and multiple sensors, it monitors the contamination level of elderly users’ diapers in real time and accurately identifies when the diaper should be changed.
MECS is equipped with three high-precision sensors: a temperature sensor, a humidity sensor, and a capacitive sensor. Through these sensors, the system sends alerts when it is time to change the diaper and automatically records each diaper change. It can also detect movement and send notifications to a mobile device, allowing caregivers to respond immediately.
What Sets MECS Apart
MECS can effectively help prevent urinary tract infections and pressure ulcers, which elderly people are especially vulnerable to, while reducing caregivers’ workload through smart care technology. This clearly differentiates it from existing commercial products, which have limitations such as low accuracy and only providing urine and bowel movement event notifications.
MECS was selected as an innovative welfare assistive device by the National Health Insurance Service, allowing users to purchase it with 70% of the cost subsidized by the government. Monit is also preparing for full-scale entry into Japan, having maintained an ongoing partnership with Kao Group, a leading Japanese healthcare company, since 2020.
In the general home care market, MECS is being rapidly adopted by nursing homes and long-term care hospitals. Monit has signed a business agreement with The Catholic University of Korea St. Vincent’s Hospital, as well as with Yangpyeong Nursing Home, where it is currently conducting a pilot project. The company is also quickly expanding its reach by providing the service to Onnuri Nursing Home on a subscription basis.

Monit is building strong growth momentum by actively responding to Korea’s diverse needs as the country enters a super-aged society. First, the company is preparing a MECS smart diaper subscription service that combines its smart sensing system with dedicated diapers.
It is also developing a non-face-to-face patient pre-consultation system that incorporates AI technology. Monit expects this to become an innovative service that can address one of the biggest complaints about existing medical services: insufficient consultation time.
The system allows patients to take enough time to explain their current medical condition to healthcare professionals, and guardians can also participate in the remote consultation, helping them better understand the treatment and progress. Medical staff can conveniently conduct remote consultations with patients who require isolation. Most importantly, the patient’s prognosis can be converted into text, summarized, and reviewed before the consultation.
Monit is also pursuing overseas business opportunities. The company is currently supplying products to Japan’s Kao Group and is in discussions with Hartmann, a German adult diaper manufacturer, to supply a dedicated diaper sensing system. Monit aims to use Germany as a base to expand its business across Europe.
